Northeast
Center for Special Care is pleased to feature:
VentWeaning.com
www.ventweaning.com
A resource website for individuals on a ventilator,
families and health care professionals. Launched
in February of 2005, VentWeaning.com
was created by and is maintained by respiratory
therapists. Gene Gantt, RRT, and CEO of Respiratory
Support Services (RSS) oversees the
site. Based in Tennessee, VentWeaning.com
serves thousands of visitors worldwide who are searching for
information related to ventilator care and weaning.
The site boasts a news section, a useful glossary of
ventilator and respiratory related terms (which also
includes a section with pictures). Sections also
include ventilator related articles, end of life
issues. One helpful section lists questions you
can ask when searching for a ventilator program.
One page defines some of the types of care delivery
sites when you can find ventilator and respiratory
services.

VentWeaning.com
is a useful and growing website for information and
support about respiratory care, ventilators and
weaning. It is our website of the month for
February 2006. |
For
those who may be facing having to assist a loved-one
who is at-risk for respiratory problems or who may
have been placed on a ventilator, there is a section
on the respiratory system that gives the reader a
basic understanding of how it works and offers links
to related sites for further information.
VentWeaning.com
has a growing marketplace section where you can locate
and browse ventilator programs as well as categorized
link pages.
A most valuable resource is the ventilator
forum. A message board where family members and
others can raise questions and discuss difficult
issues. Here you can connect with other families
and Gene Gantt often posts helpful responses.
|
The
ventilator forum - a message board is a unique
feature of this website.

One
section on VentWeaning.com
which holds out hope and encouragement is a progress
update of a young man named Matt
Johnson who is a 28 year old with Muscular
Dystrophy and is on a mechanical ventilator full
time. Matt's dream is to be able to scuba dive
and you can read about his story as well as the
efforts to develop assistive technology that will
allow him to use an adaptive ventilator underwater.
VentWeaning.com
is a labor of love. A relatively new site, it
continually is growing and new content is added
regularly. The site is non-commercial and
visitors can elect to donate to help defray the
costs. Respiratory therapists are known for
their hard work, dedication and going above and beyond
to help individuals with difficult needs. The
creators of VentWeaning.com
display that dedication in this wonderful web
resource. We know you, like us, will want to
bookmark this site and return to it again and
again. We are happy to present VentWeaning.com
to you as our site of the month for February
2006.
Do you have a web resource you think we should consider for
