(TJ) integrity with impairment of epithelial barrier function.

Theoretical concerns about liver disease and vitamin A deficiency have limited the use of oral isotretinoin for troublesome acne in adolescents with cystic fibrosis.
Critically ill patients who require mechanical ventilation are at risk for ventilator-associated pneumonia. Current data are conflicting as to the optimal diagnostic approach in patients who have suspected ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Amphiregulin, a member of the epidermal growth factor family, has been shown to promote the growth of fibroblasts, be associated with the Th2 adaptive immune response, and upregulate mucin gene expression.
Lung cancer patients with COPD are at high risk during surgery. Tiotropium, a long-acting bronchodilator, is a preferred maintenance therapy for
COPD, but its efficacy in the perioperative period has not been clarified.

Recent development in the field of COPD has focused on strategies aimed at reducing the underlying inflammation through selective inhibition of the phosphodiesterase type IV (PDE4)
isoform.
Despite the considerable amount of evidence from randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses, uncertainty remains regarding the efficacy and safety of high-frequency oscillatory ventilation as compared to conventional ventilation in the early treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in preterm infants.

Bronchial smooth muscle cells (SMC) proliferate, express adhesion molecules, secrete cytokines and thus efficiently contribute to the pathogenesis of asthma.

We previously described a 54% decline in renal function at 6 months after lung transplantation
(LTx). We hypothesized that this decline is a very early event following
LTx.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) results in chronic right heart failure which is associated with an increase in sympathetic tone. This may adversely affect cardiac autonomic control.
Quadriceps muscle weakness is an important component of COPD. We hypothesised that quadriceps weakness would also be a feature of restrictive lung disease due to scoliosis.

The identification of the minimum ozone (O3) concentration and/or dose that induces measurable lung function decrements in humans is considered in the risk assessment leading to establishing an appropriate National Ambient Air Quality Standard
(NAAQS) for O3 that protects public health.

In this retrospective study of 332 cases of Legionnaires' disease (LD) in 4 Danish counties between 1995 and 2005 we aimed to compare the sensitivity of culture,
PCR, urinary antigen testing, and serology to the mode of acquisition,
serogroup, and severity of disease.
Respiratory tract viral infection continues to be among the most common reasons for emergency department visits and hospitalization of children, particularly infants younger than 1 year, in the United States.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the symptoms of temporomandibular dysfunction
(TMD) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea treated with long-term use of an oral appliance (OA) using a questionnaire based on the Helkimo Anamnestic Dysfunction Index.
The aim of this analysis is to study the association between air pollution and asthma among adults. For this goal, a previously developed "asthma score" was used.
In this study, we questioned whether propofol provided clinical benefits compared with midazolam in terms of neuropsychometric recovery, safety profile and patient tolerance.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the fourth leading cause of mortality in the United States. Its symptoms,
