Volunteers at Landstuhl
Lake Katrine, NY, March 30, 2007 --
Martin Stein, MD., COL, MC (USAR Ret), physician at Northeast Center for
Special Care, has volunteered for a tour of duty at the Landstuhl Regional
Medical Center (LRMC), in Landstuhl, Germany, through the US Army
Reserves. Dr. Stein will work at
LMRC from April through July of 2007.
LRMC is the largest American hospital outside of the United States, and
the only American tertiary hospital in Europe. LRMC provides primary and
tertiary care, hospitalization, and treatment for more than 52,000
American military personnel and their families within the center’s
boundaries. The center also provides specialized care for the more than
250,000 additional American military personnel and their families in the
European Theater as well as injured troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Dr. Stein has a
long history of service in the military medical system, upon graduation
from medical school in 1963 Dr. Stein joined the US Army Reserves as a
physician and remained in the Reserves for six years. In 1980 he re-joined the
Reserves and served for the next fifteen years.
Dr. Stein was stationed at a number of military hospitals in the United
States and abroad including Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Landstuhl
Regional Medical Center.
Richard Hodder, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., Medical Director, Northeast Center
for Special Care noted: "Dr. Stein is dedicated to serving the
military and has made himself available in the past. His expertise
will be put to good use at Landstuhl."
In saying goodbye to his colleagues, Dr. Stein said about Northeast
Center: "This is the best brain injury program in the country,
I am so proud to work here with an incredible team of professionals and I will miss everyone."
Dr. Stein joined the medical staff at Northeast Center for Special Care in
2006. He will return in July of 2007.
