Media > 2005 Respiratory Care Symposium Northeast Center for Special Care Director of
Respiratory Care, Alicia Aldridge, RRT, CBIT-CI has been in the field of
Respiratory Therapy for twenty-seven years and has been a Director of
Respiratory Care for fifteen years. Her
presentation at the Symposium, entitled “Transitions to Long Term Care
for the Mechanically Ventilated Patient,” elicited many positive
comments from other respiratory therapists at work in the region.
Thomas Harvie, RRT, Assistant Director of Respiratory Care at
Northeast Center for Special Care, co-organized the event with Aldridge.
He has been in Respiratory Care for fourteen years.
Harvie is also the treasurer for the Northeast Chapter of the New
York State Society for Respiratory Care.
Aldridge says of Harvie, “Without him as the Assistant Director
of Respiratory Care services at Northeast Center for Special Care, I could
not provide the program of incomparable quality that we offer.” After Aldridge opened the Symposium with her talk,
presentations were made by three pulmonologists who are board certified
through Albany Critical Care Services and affiliated with St. Peter’s
Hospital and Albany Memorial Hospital.
Geoffrey Serfilippi, MD, principal investigator of Phase III study
of COPD gave a talk entitled, “Updates and Management of COPD.”
Harold Sokok, MD, principal investigator of Phase II study of
bronchiectosis gave a talk entitled, “All that Wheezes is not Asthma.”
Anthony J. Cagino, MD, FCCP, principal investigator of Phase IV
study of asthma, gave a presentation called “Ventilator Associated
Pneumonias.” Ken Wyka, MS,
RRT, FAARC taught at the symposium on “Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Its
Relationship to Cardiovascular Disease and Other Health Problems.”
Aldridge and Harvie’s foresight to schedule Alan Glickman, RN’s
“Humor in Medicine” topic as the last of the day put a cherry at the
top of Respiratory Symposium 2005. According
to Aldridge, “Everyone left the symposium smiling and laughing.
I couldn’t have asked for a better day.”
