Clinicians Present at Sixth Annual NABIS Conference on Brain Injury
Lake Katrine, NY, October 7, 2008: Two clinicians from Northeast Center for Special Care, the largest brain
injury rehabilitation program in the world, made presentations at the
North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS) Sixth Annual Conference on
Brain Injury, held from October 2-4, 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Victor Zelek, Ph.D. Director of Neuropsychology Services, and Rick
Soshensky, MA, MT-BC, NRMT, CBIS, Director of the Fine and
Performing Arts Program at Northeast Center for Special Care were among
the invited speakers at the highly-regarded NABIS conference whose
attendance included noted brain injury experts from around the globe.
Dr. Zelek presented an original study that he conducted at Northeast
Center on successful use of Neurofeedback treatment for patients with
moderate to severe acquired brain injury. Mr. Soshensky presented on the
role of the fine and performing arts in post-acute brain injury
rehabilitation, along with his presentation Mr. Soshensky presented a
video showing TBI survivors who are Northeast Center program participants
creating music, poetry and art. Both presentations were received with
great interest. NABIS Conference Chair, Dr. Ronald Savage, commended both
presentations.
Northeast Center for Special Care has pioneered the use of
neurofeedback and the fine and performing arts as a part of its unique
brain injury rehabilitation programs which have enabled hundreds of TBI
survivors to be able to return to their home communities and live
independently with supports.
Northeast Center maintains a Neurofeedback Lab with the latest QEEG and
EEG computer programs and its Fine & Performing Arts Department
utilizes a professional studio model, facilitated by professional artists
and trained creative arts therapists.
The NABIS Annual Brain Injury Conference is the largest annual
gathering of North American professionals working in the field of brain
injury. Attendees are comprised of basic scientists, rehabilitation
physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, speech
pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational
therapists, social workers, nurses, case managers, legal professionals,
advocates and all others working in the field of brain injury. Along with
Dr. Zelek and Mr. Soshensky, over 55 more of the leading experts from
North America presented the latest advances in the science, rehabilitation
and treatment of traumatic brain injury.
Northeast Center for Special Care clinicians have presented at
international brain injury conferences throughout North America as well as
around the world. With a decade of innovative brain injury rehabilitation,
cutting edge programs and a state-of-art therapeutic community Northeast
Center is pleased to share its expertise with other brain injury experts.

Northeast Center for Special Care is a state-of-art
rehabilitation program for individuals with brain injury, neurobehavioral
disorders, spinal cord injury, and ventilator dependency. Established in
1999, it is located on a 39-acre campus in the beautiful Hudson Valley.
