AACBIS Certified Nurse Leader at Northeast Center for Special Care Earns NAWC®
Wound Care Certification
Lake Katrine, NY December 7, 2007: Ann Belcher, CEO of Northeast Center
for Special Care is please to announce that Kathy McCormick, RN, CBIS, WCC,
has been awarded Wound Care Certification from the National Alliance of
Wound Care (NAWC). Ms. McCormick attended intensive training class and
scored 98% on her wound care certification examination.
Ms. McCormick noted:
This was a wonderful educational opportunity for me to build on
my own knowledge base as well as bringing this expertise to
Northeast Center for Special Care. I attended classes from 9:00
am-4:00 pm for four days. One the fifth day we had our
certification exam. It was an intensive course with a difficult
exam and I felt I gained a lot from participating. I now have a
five-year certification and I am certified as a wound care
specialist.

The NAWC® offers the "Wound Care Certification Examination"
to measure the academic and technical competence of eligible candidates in
the area of Skin and Wound Care Management. Skin and wound management is a
specialized area that focuses on overall skin care, promotion of an
optimal wound healing environment, including prevention, therapeutic
interventions, and rehabilitative interventions.
Northeast Center for Special Care is committed to continuing education for
its professionals. Besides regularly sponsoring its clinicians to attend
advanced trainings, the Center operates its own in-house education and
training program with two full-time nurse-trainers and also conducts
classes for the American Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (AACBIS).
Anthony Salerno, President of Northeast Center for Special Care said of
Ms. McCormick:
While people often focus of the Northeast center’s
specialized programs for Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury,
Ventilator Weaning, and Neurobehavioral Interventions, it is the
fundamental competencies of our nursing staff and nurse leadership
that form the backbone of our entire staff’s ability to strive
for excellent outcomes for our Resident Neighbors. Kathy McCormick
is a superb Nurse Leader who took the initiative to gain special
certification in an area of clinical competence essential to the
health and well-being of our Resident Neighbors. We commend her
and join her co-workers in praising her achievement.

The staff and Resident-Neighbors of Northeast Center for Special Care
