Northeast Center for Special Care Artwork and
Poetry Featured at Joint Exhibition at Ellenville Hospital and Library
Ellenville, NY, February 9, 2009 -- In a unique collaboration, Ellenville
Regional Hospital and Ellenville Public Library are sponsoring through the
month of February an exhibition of poetry and artwork , Art from the
Heart, created by the Resident-Neighbors of Northeast Center for
Special Care, a 280-bed specialty rehabilitation program for traumatic
brain injury, spinal cord injury, respiratory and ventilator care and
complex medical recovery in Lake Katrine, NY, Ulster County.
The public got a chance to discuss the artwork with several of the
creators from Northeast Center at a special opening reception in the newly
renovated ER wing on Wednesday, February 4, hosted by Ellenville Hospital.
The artwork is also on display in the Ellenville Public Library’s
Gallery Link. The two exhibitions were coordinated by Northeast Center for
Special Care’s Art Director, Susan Togut, Ellenville Hospital Human
Resources Director Debra Briggs and Ellenville Library Community Relations
Assistant Asha Golliher.
“I found the quality of the artwork truly amazing and the poetry
enabled me to appreciate the artwork to an even greater degree,” said
Ellenville Hospital CEO Steve Kelly. “ It makes a great addition to our
Healing Art Program. I was thrilled that the Resident-Neighbors involved
in creative endeavors were able to be on hand to describe the process.”
The exhibition featured a variety of mediums, including pencil,
watercolor and stained glass pieces created by more than a dozen Neighbors
over the past year in the center’s specially-equipped Art Studio.
Resident-Neighbor’s artwork is displayed through the center and has also
been exhibited at museums, galleries, and public events throughout the
country.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase the many talents of
our Resident-Artists at Northeast Center for Special Care,’ said
Healthcare Associates CEO Ann Belcher. “The focus at Northeast Center
for Special Care is rehabilitation, recovery and reentry back into the
community. An event such as this is successful on so many levels -
allowing the public to witness the incredible and diverse creativity of
our population here and also providing meaningful feedback to the
Resident-Neighbors who created these one-of-a-kind pieces of art as a part
of their own rehabilitation.”
