TBI Recovery With Its 4th Annual Mid-Hudson Brain Injury Rehabilitation
Conference in Kingston, NY
Kingston, NY, October 3, 2008: Northeast Center for Special Care, a specialty rehabilitation program for
recovery from traumatic brain injury, presented the 4th Annual
Mid-Hudson Brain Injury Rehabilitation Conference in Kingston, NY on
October 2, 2008.
The conference was themed: Post-Acute Rehabilitation: Meeting the
Challenge of Long-Term Recovery, and provided attendees with
information and education about brain injury rehabilitation over the
long-term. It was designed for clinicians who work with the brain injury
population and covered traditional and non-traditional treatment
modalities.
The conference presented several notable speakers who are experts in the
field of brain injury rehabilitation. The agenda was as follows:

Principles of Holistic Rehabilitation in the Post Acute Setting, Yehuda
Ben-Yishay, PhD., Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine, New
York University School of Medicine, Director, Brain Injury Day
Treatment Program, Rusk Institute, New York University Medical Center.
Recipes for Success in Post-Acute Rehabilitation, Nathan D.
Zasler, MD., FAAPM&R, FAADEP, DAAPM, CBIT, CEO and Medical
Director of the Concussion Care Centre of Virginia, and Tree of Life,
living assistance and transitional neurorehabilitation program, Glen
Allen VA.
Natural Approaches for Support of Long-Term Recovery, Richard
P. Brown, MD., Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia
University.
Management of Visual Chronic Conditions, Dr. Neera Kapoor,
O.D., M.S., FAAO, B.Sc, Associate Clinical Professor and Director of
the Raymond J. Greenwald Rehabilitation Center, SUNY-Optometry.
- Unexpected Delayed Recovery Post-TBI: Case Studies, Gerry
Brooks MA, CCC, CBIST, Director of Brain Injury Programs, Northeast
Center for Special Care.
A lunchtime program entitled: Community Transition and the Fine and
Performing Arts, presented a video of artists and musicians who are
TBI survivors and participate in the Fine and Performing Arts Program at
Northeast Center for Special Care, as a part of their rehabilitation and
treatment. A gallery of original artworks created by TBI survivors adorned
the public walkway and the main conference room. After the main
presentations Meet the Speakers, was held - an informal question
& answer session with the conference presenters and attendees.
The conference was fully attended and among the attendees were: nurses,
case managers, social workers, psychologists, physical and occupational
therapists, social workers, nursing students, interns and individuals from
other professions.
Northeast Center for Special Care, the largest brain injury rehabilitation
program in the world, will continue its commitment to provide continuing
educational opportunities of professionals who support individual with
TBI, Ann Belcher, CEO of Northeast Center announced a fifth annual

Northeast Center for Special Care is a state-of-art
rehabilitation program for individuals with brain injury, neurobehavioral
disorders, spinal cord injury, and ventilator dependency. Established in
1999, it is located on a 39-acre campus in the beautiful Hudson Valley.
The mission of Northeast Center for Special Care is rehabilitation,
recovery and community reentry for individuals with disabilities. Since
