The Ceiling of Night
By
Nola A.
I stand on the mountain top
around me are shadows,
black against the deeper black.
The silence is not complete;
wind moans gently.
The earth settles
with the sharp rattling of pebbles.
Somewhere in the distance is the gurgling
of a stream and the splash
as it meets with rocks and falls
over a steep decline.
Softly resting on my shoulders,
a black velvet cloak of midnight
comforts me with it’s cool touch.
Nothing harsh or abrasive,
only quiet and calm.
I come here often to rest
my weary body and spirit.
The ceiling of night above me.
A ceiling pierced with pinpoints of light.
Diamonds set in the
soft blackness of my midnight cloak.
Here there is rest.
Here there is peace.
Here is a place for dreaming and reflection.
Here I find you.
