Carolyn Corbett - Director:
Carolyn Corbett, BS, BFA,
MFA, is a poet, filmmaker, performance artist, teacher and classically
trained actor. She has been producing original works for the stage and
screen for the past twelve years. Carolyn recently directed and produced
the documentary feature, The Edge of Things, which is currently
being submitted internationally to major film festivals. In 2004, the
feature film Dakota, which she wrote, produced, and starred in, was
released and formally premiered at The Paper Heart, a downtown arts venue
in Phoenix, Arizona. Dakota also screened at the Galapagos Art
Space in Brooklyn, New York. Carolyn is currently working on her next
documentary film about the Shakespeare Program at Northeast Center for
Special Care. She has also appeared in the films Frames, Get Over It and
Wanderlust.
In addition to her own creative projects, Carolyn is the Director of the
Language Arts Program, which she implemented, at Northeast Center for
Special Care. Prior to this position, Carolyn was Adjunct Professor of
Voice and Speech at SUNY New Paltz. She also held the position of
Teaching-Artist for the Metropolitan Opera Guild in their renowned
Creating Original Opera Program based in New York City. This position
entailed guiding public school children through the process of writing,
designing, building, producing, publicizing and performing original
operas.
Ms. Corbett has performed live readings of poetry written by Northeast
Center for Special Care Resident-Neighbors at the New York State Traumatic
Brain Injury Services Coordination Committee, in Albany, as a participant
at the 2006 Mid-Hudson Brain Injury Rehabilitation Conference and was one
of the honorees of the 2007 New York State Healthcare Facilities
Association Innovative Practices Award for the Fine and Performing Arts
Program at Northeast Center for Special Care.
Ms. Corbett graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Theatre Arts from the
State University of New York at New Paltz and received her M.F.A. on
full-scholarship, from the Graduate Acting Program at New York University.
She also attended the Intensive Physical Training Program at the
International Theatre School of Jacques Lecoq in Paris, France and the
Summer Training Institute of the Saratoga International Theatre Institute
in Saratoga Springs, NY. Carolyn was a member of the Juggernaut Theatre
Company in New York City from 1996-2001 and was a recipient of the Irene
Ryan Acting Award, at the University of Evansville in 1989.
Michael Knowles - Editor:
Michael Knowles is an award winning filmmaker. His short film Nick and
Stacey premiered at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival. Nick and Stacey then
went on to screen in eight more festivals as well as IFP Buzz Cuts. Nick
and Stacey was the first story shot for his feature film ROOM 314 which he
wrote, directed and produced twice as a play before making it into a
feature film. Room 314, has so far been accepted into 9 film festivals and
had a week long Theatrical Run at The Pioneer Theater in NYC where it
received great reviews from The New York Times, Variety, New York Press
and other publications. Most recently, he directed his second feature
film, ONE NIGHT, in the summer of 2006 in NYC, a screenplay he also wrote.
Mr. Knowles studied with and has been heavily influenced by the award
winning filmmaker Tom Noonan. His other recent writing credits include:
CHARACTERS, which starred Lukas Haas and Sara Foster, and ARGO which he
co-wrote and co-directed alongside Jordan Bayne and starred Jordana Spiro
(Must Love Dogs) and Marcus Chait (Million Dollar Baby).
As an actor Mr. Knowles has appeared on the award winning HBO series Sex
& the City as Marathon Man and on an award winning episode of Law
& Order SVU as Artie Felton. He has also appeared on Guiding Light, As
the World Turns and All My Children. More recent film credits include
award-winning feature films such as POINT & SHOOT, which premiered at
the Tribeca Film Festival, screened at the Hamptons International Film
Festival, and won the Audience Award at the Cinema Paradise Film Festival.
WALKING ON THE SKY, another film Michael worked on recently, won best
Dramatic Feature at the New York International Film & Video Festival
(LA) and had a limited theatrical release in September 2005. In the summer
of 2006, Michael had a role in THE BABYSITTERS, starring Cynthia Nixon and
John Leguizamo.
Mr. Knowles will be
shooting his third feature film, NICK & STACEY, starting in the summer
of 2007. He runs his own production company 7A Productions in New
York City.
