Apallic Syndrome

(This is an older, non-specific term.)  The behavior that accompanies diffuse bilateral degeneration of the cerebral cortex that sometimes follows anoxic brain injury.  It describes patients with absent cortical function but with relatively intact brain stem function.  (See Persistent Vegetative State).
