"A Tale of Two Cities" 20" x 16" 2001
By Gregory D.
Gregory D. A former
stockbroker and graduate of The Wharton School of the
University of Pennsylvania, forty-year-old Gregory came
to Northeast Center for Special Care for rehabilitation of a stroke and
subsequent aphasia. Having directly confronted the
fragility of the human condition, he must now
reconstruct his mind with an energy that will inform his
future. It is a difficult task which he is capable of
achieving, yet it continues to evade him.
His beautiful drawings are schematas of the mind,
blueprints of intricate thought tracing its way through
a labyrinth of connections and personal meanings.
The same intricacies and considerations were carried
over into his paintings, witness A Tale of Two
Cities.
Here NY and Chicago, representing stocks and bonds
capitals respectively, are encapsulated between a
Verizon sky filled with information and a waterfront
common to both cities. Near the middle of the painting,
connecting NY and Chicago, is a red, I-beam structure
representing the upper support of the Art Studio atrium
where Gregory paints. It's his world to recapture or
remain in. We're confident it will be the former.
Gregory was discharged to the community where he continues to do well
and now has a successful career as a financial planner.
