Another work by Erich
M. The state which produced his paintings, however, is far
from ideal. Erich, a musician who played piano and
bagpipes and founded a regional symphony orchestra, is
quadriplegic as a result of a domestic accident.
Subsequently, the hopeless abyss into which he had
recoiled was dissolved once he became immersed in a
painting process where swirling head motions deposit
stokes of carefully-chosen colors onto canvases. Holding
a brush in his teeth, Erich can spend hours creating his
new worlds, contentedly realizing he can make graphic
equivalents to his love of producing sound. With power chair, computer and 'twenty-four/seven' help, Erich
is now living independently in the community, returning
on a regular basis to the art studio at Northeast Center
for Special Care to continue
painting.
