"Interior" 20" x 16" 1999
By Vannga L.
Vannga
L., a Vietnamese student from New York City, sustained a
brain injury as the result of a fall. Her
considerateness, stoicism and willingness to laugh at
herself quickly endeared herself to everybody.
Her foray into painting contributed to her dramatic
improvement in self-esteem as she developed paintings
with considerable charm and wit. Unaware of the
art of Matisse, she nevertheless captured some of his
spirit in her work. Interior, an exquisite,
flat, symmetrical space is one of Vannga's
interpretations of the atria's at Northeast Center for
Special Care. Vannga was
discharged from Northeast Center for Special Care to her
home.
