"Four Red Houses
& Three Crosses" 24" x 30" 2003
By Edwin K.
Since he began painting at the Art
Studio, Edwin has been painting red houses which remind
him of fire stations. A prolific artist with a
developmental disability and a respiratory condition,
Edwin reinvents these red structures in each successive
painting by incorporating cat heads, crosses and/or
abstract design. These new motifs evolved from the red
buildings, i.e., the crosses from cross bars in the
windows, the cat heads from buildings which looked
cat-like, and the abstract design from planer divisions
in the buildings. His paintings donąt stray far from
their original impulses, while maintaining their
vitality by providing sources for discovery.
