“Mrs.
Patty D. Artist,” heads
up every piece of art created by this woman of the heart. She loves
being an artist and knows that her new identity, defines her at the
core. Through art Patty
symbolically came back to life and, to, in Patty’s words, “a better
world.” Patty has become well known in the Northeast Center community for her portraits of herself, and many others whom she cares about. Recently
Patty has expanded her creative work far beyond portraiture.
She has explored other modalities, such as landscape drawing,
abstract painting, and as seen in this example, the creation of mandalas.
This piece relates to a spiritual, circular form developed
uniquely in many cultures over centuries of time.
Patty’s mandala was illuminated through the use of colored
pencils on black paper, a seemingly simple yet complex form of
expression.
