Fannie
W. is among a small group of quiet warriors who cannot use their
hands at all and must rely entirely on more resourceful means.
She is a lovely, sweet woman whose words are hardly audible, but
who patiently articulates her feelings, choices, and needs. She loves to
hear passages from the Bible.
She loves all sorts of music such as Motown and Luther Vandross
as well.
Formerly a supervisor for a prison store, she experienced a
stroke that caused a traumatic brain stem injury.
Fannie
never created art before coming to the Art Studio.
Since discovering the joy of painting she uses a mouth stick
holding a paintbrush to explore this new world.
Despite the adaptive means Fannie is able to articulate a vital
calligraphic form of visual expression.
This painting beautifully exemplifies a spacious, Asian form of
contemplative image making which echoes the soul of a graceful woman.
