"Sunburst Moonglow" 18" x 24" 2004
By Heidi D.
Heidi
D.
is a most interesting artist. Her
brain injury occurred as a child as a result of seizures.
Now an adult, her art is filled with layers of text and image
that grow from her multi-dimensional personal space.
She is extremely versatile, working in different styles.
In earlier days Heidi worked in
the Art Studio with simple materials like markers and crayons.
She soon began painting with acrylic on canvas as if it was all
second nature. She moved
from using brushes to working with a toothbrush and hot water. Her first
painting expressed a colorful sunset over the ocean with incredible
virtuosity. Subsequent
paintings have been created spontaneously, often going through many
transformations, which echo processes of growth and decay found in
nature.
Heidi has been an enthusiastic collaborator on several, large scale
mural projects, happy to bounce off and inspire the work of others. She
contributed to these projects with great intensity and concentration,
working spread out on the floor or in any manner necessary to reach the
work. “Sunburst, Moonglow” is a most vital example of her
paintings that emulate nature’s processes.
