"Down
the Rabbit Hole" 16" x 20" 2005
By Nola A.
Nola
A. loves music and expressed herself through music from a very
early age.
She studied to be a concert pianist from age four through her
young adulthood. She also played the clarinet and the violin. She was
always a singer, performing at church, weddings and with chorale choirs
until her vocal cords were damaged from surgery related to asthma.
Before coming to Northeast Center for Special Care Nola made just a bit
of visual art, however, she became actively involved in the writing and
fine arts programs here and uncovered great potential in these arenas.
In particular she felt very comfortable in the Art Studio where she
turned from singing to painting. “This is my music now. Painting
releases all that’s pent up inside of me,” Nola says.
Nola has enjoyed landscape painting, creating outdoors directly from
nature. She also worked extremely well on collaborative murals
with text and images. She incorporated her own ideas while
beautifully integrating the work of others. This personal example,
entitled, Down the Rabbit Hole,
harks back
to her love for Alice in Wonderland from her childhood. Nola looks forward to creating many more works of art.
She hopes to put a symphony on canvass in the very near future.
