"Queen of the Forest"  24' x 24'  2008

By Elizabeth C.

Elizabeth suffered a blood clot in her lungs six years ago, in her mid thirties, causing her to stop breathing for a moment. This experience, overlaid upon numerous respiratory and medical challenges, has instilled an appreciation for dimensions that give her life meaning. Though she received no formal art training as a child, she enjoyed drawing, painting, carpentry and ceramics that boosted her self-esteem in earlier years. Her introduction to the Art Studio by a friend opened important new doorways.

Gradually Elizabeth became actively engaged in the fine arts and now participates daily. She feels more whole through her love of art, dreams about it, and finds herself wondering where it will take her. She works diligently at building her visual art skills, including drawing, composition, shading and completing a work fully. She is developing patience with images that are meticulously developed, highly detailed, charming and upbeat, as seen in these examples. Her growing body of work is sometimes story based. It may also be developed in series, such as one example here from the animal and another from the flower series. Her one-woman show at the Center and regular contributions to community exhibitions, as well as her participation in collaborative murals, has comprehensively lifted her identity as artist. She enjoys exhibiting her art so the pleasure it brings her can reach others in ever widening circles.
