Heidi is a most interesting artist who lives in an elaborate inner world. At age seven a bicycle accident resulted in massive bleeding and subsequent swelling of the brain, causing a subdural hematoma and seizures. She regained her sight and speech, but was challenged physically and cognitively. She is a highly inquisitive, intelligent and idiosyncratic woman. During her early days in the Art Studio Ms. de la P. worked
with simple materials like crayons and markers, covering many pages with
an incomprehensible language. She soon began painting on canvass as if
it was all second nature. Her first painting expressed a colorful sunset
with incredible virtuosity. Subsequent paintings have been created
spontaneously, going through many transformations that echo processes of
growth and decay found in nature. A fearless painter, Heidi has created
an impressive body of work, filled with layers of text and image, full
of hidden meanings that hark back to ancient times. She has evolved an
iconography that includes text, calendars, rainbows, storm boats and all
manner of organic, sometimes explosive images. Illuminated Calendar
is typical of her textual, meaning infused paintings. Transformation
Through Time epitomizes her dynamic process, showing two stages of
the same painting.
