 The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Northeast Center for Special Care

Because brain injury challenges the mind, the body, and the spirit, a truly unique and uniquely effective program has been designed at the Northeast Center for Special care to restore physical and cognitive abilities, emotional adjustment, and spiritual well-being. 

The ultimate goal of treatment is not just a return to the Community but mastery of a style of living that maintains the gains made in therapy and promotes mental and physical health and a positive, hopeful outlook that continue to grow throughout a life time.

Up to 280 residents, nearly 500 staff, and countless visitors bring the Northeast Center to life in an environment that visitors routinely describe as "cheerful," "uplifting," and "full of hope." The Northeast Center's programs feature the following:

  • 208,000 square foot state-of-art facility designed to simulate the challenges and opportunities of community living including a store, cafe, post office, bank, beauty parlor, gym, a library, and a theatre.  A thirty-nine acre campus and access to the local community allows for an individual to begin the process of community transition.
  • Expert brain injury rehabilitation staff consisting of specialists in internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, neuropsychology, pulmonary medicine, social work, nursing, nutrition, wound healing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, therapeutic recreation, education, and counseling
  • A panel of specialized services that includes EEG biofeedback, pet therapy, fine and performing arts studios, art therapy, music therapy, expressive arts therapy, assistive technology, fitness and exercise, leisure education, and advanced mobility training, special social programs, alcohol and substance abuse counseling, family education, our own Olympics, and community reentry services that begin as soon as a person is admitted.
  • Sub specialty programs including an award winning ventilator weaning program, intensive behavioral rehabilitation, intensive post acute brain injury rehabilitation, cognitive-behavioral re-education curriculum, intensive community readiness program, personal futures planning
